Fancy shapes do not. Instead, they have specific parameters of measurement that one should stay between when picking them out. They do not have grades on a grading report, with the exception of some laboratories. 

You may find Asscher cut lab diamonds that retailers have sorted into different cut categories, but this is often done for inventory sorting. 

Ideal Proportions for Lab-Grown Asscher Cuts

Instead of a cut grade like Excellent or Very Good, Asscher and other shapes have “ideal” proportions. You should choose Asscher diamond according to the following parameters:

  • Length to Width Ratio: 1.00-1.05
  • Depth Percentage: 65-75%
  • Crown Height: 12-17% of the total depth

You should know that faint yellow and light yellow colorless diamonds are not the same as fancy-colored yellow diamonds (you can learn more in our guide to fancy-colored lab diamonds). If a diamond is supposed to be colorless, the presence of yellow is considered lower and cheaper. 

The great thing about color grades and the presence of yellow tint is that it only affects your diamond visually. It can’t harm it physically. Some shoppers even prefer the warmer, cheaper color grades. And, if you set your diamond in a golden metal, you may as well pick a more affordable color grade because the gold will impact the diamond’s color appearance.

But if you want to keep your Asscher cut diamonds as tint-free as possible, you’ll want to choose higher color grades. Higher color grades often cost more, assuming other details are also high. 

Purchasing a lab-grown Asscher cut diamond is a great idea, especially regarding color grades. Lab-grown diamonds have the same color grades as mined diamonds, but you’re more likely to see more colorless lab diamonds than tinted lab diamonds. 

And if you like the warm yellow tint, you’re at an even better advantage with a less expensive diamond that isn’t harmed by a lower color grade.

Best Carat Weight for Asscher Cut Diamonds

Carat weight is often considered a diamond’s size, but it’s not. Different diamond shapes have different cutting styles. The same diamond shape will get bigger as it increases from 1 carat to 2 carats, and so on. But some 1-carat lab-created diamond shapes will look bigger than others despite weighing the same. 

A round brilliant diamond may look smaller than an oval lab-grown diamond of the same carat weight. Oval cut diamonds are elongated and require more of the carat weight in its length rather than underneath. Round diamonds require a deep bottom, resulting in more of their carat weight being unseen.

Remember when we mentioned that Asscher cut diamonds have a higher crown (face-up facets) than other diamond shapes? That means more of the carat weight is in the crown, but not giving it a wider surface area. 

The cropped corners of an Asscher cut diamond and its protruding crown make it look smaller than other square shapes like princess cut lab diamonds or radiant cut diamonds. 

If you want a larger-looking Asscher cut diamond, you may want to devote more of your budget towards carat weight. Keep in mind that some lower clarity grades and color grades may need to be higher as carat weight increases. That is because they become more visible and will impact the overall appearance more.

And that can be very expensive. Carat weight is one of the quickest ways to increase the price of diamonds. You can find 3-carat lab diamonds with lower clarity and color grades for tens of thousands of dollars despite their unappealing look. 

So, it’s important not to prioritize carat weight too much over other diamond grades. A 1-carat eye-clean diamond will look much prettier than a 2-carat lab-grown diamond with I clarity grades. However, the two-carat is also likely to be more expensive. 

How Much Does a Lab-Grown Asscher Cut Diamond Cost?

When you choose a lab-grown Asscher cut diamond over a mined one, you gain many advantages and few disadvantages.

The most significant advantage lab-grown diamonds have over mined diamonds is their price. In fact, they are so cheap that some people think they’re fake. Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds, we assure you.

But be aware that there’s no exact number of how much lab-created Asscher-shaped diamond costs. That’s because so many factors and personal preferences affect diamond prices. Diamond quality, certification, brand, retailer, and individual factors about the diamond can all affect the price of an Asscher cut diamond. 

But one thing is sure: Lab-grown Asscher cut diamonds are substantially cheaper than mined ones. However, be aware that the trade-off for a cheaper price is the “rarity” of a diamond.
