Clean Origin was the better-value choice in our original comparison with Jared, but our recommendation is more cautious today. Clean Origin is worth comparing for a specific diamond or design; Jared is worth considering for local service. Neither would be our first stop without checking our leading alternatives.
We now rate Clean Origin 3.7/5. We had a positive experience with a bracelet purchase, but later concerns about value, service and product information mean we no longer recommend it as enthusiastically as this article once did.

Introduction to Clean Origin
Clean Origin launched in 2017 with a focus on lab-grown diamonds. It now also lists natural diamonds, so it is no longer accurate to describe its catalog as exclusively lab-grown.
Its range includes engagement rings, wedding bands, bracelets, earrings and necklaces. We still see pieces worth comparing, but the brand's earlier reputation for low prices is not enough on its own to recommend a purchase today.
Introduction to Jared
Jared began in 1993 and is part of Signet. Its stores offer jewelry shopping, fittings, repairs and custom-design help alongside its online catalog.
That local service is its main advantage in this comparison. If you want to try on several settings and return to the same store for maintenance, include that convenience when weighing the price.
Lab-grown diamond selection
Clean Origin diamond quality and inventory
Our original research recorded roughly 70,000 loose lab-grown diamonds at Clean Origin. The archived search shows 45 matches for round stones at 0.93–1.07 carats, I–J color, VS1–VS2 clarity and Excellent–Ideal cut labels.
Those are historical counts. The practical question today is whether you can inspect the actual diamond you want. Some product pages we checked for our updated Clean Origin review used a “Sample Image” label. A representative image cannot tell you what a particular stone looks like, so request its report and actual images or video.
Jared diamond quality and inventory
Our earlier Jared search returned 5,294 stones under broader filters and 41 in the I–J color range. The broader counts used different search rules from the 45 Clean Origin reference matches and should not be read as an exact comparison of suitable inventory.
Jared offers a loose-diamond search, but some finished pieces provide only minimum diamond grades. Check the particular stone and setting rather than assuming one retailer's whole catalog is better.
Price comparison
Clean Origin diamond prices
Our original comparison quoted $800–$1,170 for Clean Origin reference diamonds. The archived search screenshot also shows lower-priced results, starting at $562. We have kept both records, but would not treat the quoted range as the full range of prices available at the time.
We also recorded a half-carat-total-weight solitaire pendant at $695. These earlier examples helped make Clean Origin our preference over Jared.
Jared diamond prices
Jared's reference stones ranged from $1,470–$2,670 in that earlier research. A diamond around $1,800 looked more appealing to us in the magnified images than the cheapest options; this was our assessment while shopping, not a separate grading report.

Clean Origin was less expensive in this historical comparison. That does not establish the best place to buy now, after substantial changes in lab-grown diamond prices.
Our September 2026 Clean Origin review includes a 2.01-carat E/VVS2 IGI-graded round diamond at $694, recorded on September 1. We compared it with a five-stone Ritani sample at 1.95 carats with a median price of $422. These were close specifications, not identical diamonds, and they are dated examples rather than live quotes.
That newer check is one reason we would compare Ritani before choosing either Clean Origin or Jared. Our two-carat price guide gives more context for a current budget.
Shopping experience
Our experience with Clean Origin
We bought a bracelet from Clean Origin and liked the jewelry, packaging and straightforward return process. That positive experience remains part of our assessment; it has not been erased by our more cautious current verdict.
However, an earlier successful order does not settle today's value or service questions. Our updated review gives greater weight to later concerns and the information available for individual diamonds.
Shopping at Jared
Jared makes it easy to combine online browsing with a store visit. Being able to try on rings, discuss a custom design and return for repairs can be helpful, especially if you are buying your first engagement ring.
Ask which services are included and which require an additional plan. Jared's lifetime diamond guarantee has conditions, including inspections every six months. It does not cover every possible loss simply because it is described as a lifetime guarantee.
Which experience is better?
Our original article strongly favored Clean Origin. Today, we would make the decision around the exact product, price and help you receive. Jared has an advantage for local aftercare; Clean Origin has a longer eligible return period, although alterations can affect eligibility.
If neither seller gives you confidence in the stone or the overall price, widen your shortlist rather than feeling obliged to choose between them.
Sustainability and sourcing
Clean Origin
Clean Origin publishes information about sourcing and recycled materials. We would check the claims for the piece you want rather than assume that a company-wide statement applies equally to every metal and diamond.
Its expanded natural-diamond catalog also means the old description of an exclusively lab-grown business no longer fits. Choose the diamond type deliberately and ask for relevant sourcing information.
Jared
Jared publishes responsible-sourcing commitments through Signet. Our earlier suggestion that it did little in this area was too broad. Those commitments are useful background, but they do not measure the environmental impact of every piece.
Shipping and returns
Clean Origin's current policy offers eligible returns within 60 days, starting when an order is ready for delivery or pickup. The item must reach its office by day 60. It provides eligible US return labels, but resized or exchanged orders are final sale, and custom orders receive store credit rather than a cash refund.
Jared offers eligible returns within 30 days of purchase, or shipment for online orders, with exchanges handled in stores. Custom and engraved pieces can be excluded. Its shipping page lists free expedited shipping for orders over $199.
Clean Origin's longer window is useful, but confirm eligibility before resizing a ring. At either seller, the production time for your jewelry comes before the carrier's delivery time.

What we like about Clean Origin

- A shorter return window and conditions attached to service guarantees.
Our verdict
We would not choose Clean Origin automatically over Jared today. It won our earlier price comparison, and our bracelet purchase went well, but our current 3.7/5 assessment is more cautious.
Clean Origin may make sense for a well-documented piece at the right price. Jared may make sense when local service is worth the difference to you. For most buyers, we would also compare Ritani and With Clarity before ordering.

Broader inventory counts used different filters, and seller cut labels are not a shared independent standard.

We checked current merchant return, shipping and service information, updated Clean Origin's rating and recommendation, and corrected its lab-grown-only description. We kept the earlier purchase experience while removing unsupported blanket claims about diamond quality and sustainability.
