Ritani is our choice for loose-diamond value. Brilliant Earth is the stronger option if its designs, showrooms and service matter enough to justify a higher price. We recommend both, but not for the same reasons.
Our later price checks found a larger gap between the sellers. Check the diamond at Ritani before paying Brilliant Earth's premium, then decide what the complete piece and shopping experience are worth to you.

Introduction to Ritani
Ritani was founded in 1999 and offers made-to-order jewelry from New York. It sells mined and lab-grown diamonds, rings, earrings, pendants and other jewelry, with particular strength in letting you choose the stones yourself.

We have bought from Ritani and used its preview and customization services. One completed ring, built around a recommended 1.15-carat diamond, cost us less than $1,000 and arrived in four days. The finished ring and grading report supported our positive view. Our Ritani review includes the photographs and full experience.
Introduction to Brilliant Earth
Brilliant Earth began in 2005 with a focus on sourcing and sustainability. It has grown into a national jewelry brand with a broad selection of settings, lab-grown and mined diamonds, and physical showrooms.

We like its designs and the ease of moving between online research, expert help and trying jewelry on. Its August 2026 results announced the opening of its 43rd US showroom, in San Antonio.
Our Brilliant Earth review explains why we still rate it highly while taking a firmer view of the prices.
Ritani vs. Brilliant Earth: lab-grown diamond selection
For the comparison, we searched for round lab-grown diamonds weighing 0.93–1.07 carats, with I–J color, VS1–VS2 clarity, and the highest qualifying cut label, generally IGI Ideal.
That kept the search reasonably consistent. I–J color is toward the warmer end of near-colorless; VS1–VS2 clarity means small features that usually need magnification to see. The best choice still depends on the actual stone, not the grade labels alone.
Ritani diamond quality and inventory
Our search found 118 qualifying Ritani diamonds, within a catalog of about 97,000 lab-grown and 165,000 mined stones. It shows the depth available even after applying narrow filters.

We liked being able to choose diamonds for earrings and pendants as well as rings. It lets you spend more on the quality that matters to you and avoid paying for grades you will struggle to see.
That does not make all preset jewelry inferior. Check the cut, color and clarity information for the exact piece, especially where smaller stones are sold as a range rather than with individual reports.
Brilliant Earth diamond quality and inventory
Brilliant Earth returned more than 400 matches in the same reference search, from a catalog of over 50,000 loose lab-grown diamonds. Despite the smaller headline inventory, it had more matches for these particular grades.
This is why we would not choose a jeweler by catalog size alone. Both gave us enough choice. A shortlist of diamonds you can properly inspect is more useful than thousands of unsuitable results.
Brilliant Earth's setting and jewelry range is a major attraction. We liked the mix of classic and less conventional designs, with options to pair a chosen diamond and setting. Use the diamond buying guide to narrow the stone first, then compare the complete jewelry price.
Ritani vs. Brilliant Earth: price comparison
Ritani diamond prices
Ritani had the lower loose-diamond prices in our comparison and remained much cheaper in our later two-carat check. That is why we would begin a price comparison there.
Its price breakdown shows the seller's stated diamond cost, fulfillment cost and markup. We find this helpful, but it is the final price for a suitable stone that matters. A low markup does not remove the need to inspect the video and report.
Brilliant Earth diamond prices
Brilliant Earth is a premium choice, not a near-match to Ritani on every loose stone. Its setting designs, showrooms and support can justify spending more on the finished ring, but those benefits should be a deliberate choice.
In our August 2026 review research, five 1.95-carat Ritani results had a typical price of $422, while a 2.00-carat Brilliant Earth example cost $2,100. Both selections were round, E color, VVS2 clarity and IGI graded, with top qualifying seller cut labels.
We used five Ritani listings and one Brilliant Earth listing at nearby weights. The gap was large enough to change our advice: do not assume Brilliant Earth's loose-diamond premium is small.
Our two-carat price guide has current comparisons and explains how the samples are selected.
Our price comparison
We compared both loose stones and finished jewelry:
| Price comparison | Ritani | Brilliant Earth |
|---|---|---|
| Reference round diamond, near one carat | $519–$1,251 | $1,100–$1,890 |
| Martini stud earrings, 1 carat total weight | $1,356 | $1,490 |
Total weight adds both earring diamonds together. One carat total weight is not one carat in each ear. The pairs had the same total weight, but compare the metal, backs and diamond grades too before choosing on price.
For shopping now, compare the metal, backs, stone sizes and grading information as well as the final price. Preset jewelry is less interchangeable than a list of carat weights suggests.
Ritani vs. Brilliant Earth: shopping experience
The Ritani shopping experience
Ritani's inspection tools and price information made a strong impression in our research. We could look closely at diamonds, compare options and ask for help without starting the search from scratch.
We also liked its alternative recommendations. During one purchase we accepted a suggested stone and were pleased with the result. Treat those suggestions as candidates to compare, not automatic instructions to choose the cheaper one.
Ritani now offers Free Preview with a Diamond Pro. It has a $1,500 order minimum, location and appointment limits, and a temporary card hold. Check eligibility before planning a trip. It is different from walking into a traditional showroom to browse a range of settings.
Brilliant Earth shopping experience
We found Brilliant Earth's site easy to navigate, with useful diamond images, videos and grading-report links. Some reports needed zooming to read clearly, while its diamond pages made the report section easy to locate and inspect.
The bigger difference is the choice of shopping methods. A showroom lets you try settings on and see proportions on your hand, while virtual appointments offer help when a visit is impractical.
Our research included customer-service questions and a purchase-and-return test. Those experiences support the recommendation in our full review. If you value that support, a particular setting and a convenient showroom, Brilliant Earth's premium can make more sense than it does for a loose diamond alone.
Ritani vs. Brilliant Earth: sustainability
Ritani sustainability
Ritani provides useful information about lab-grown diamonds, but we would like more detail about individual growers, energy sources and materials. Selling lab-grown diamonds does not prove every piece has the same environmental or labor credentials.
Price transparency and sourcing transparency answer different questions. We appreciate the former without assuming it settles the latter.
Brilliant Earth sustainability
Brilliant Earth gives buyers more specific sourcing choices. Its 2025 Mission Report describes the Renewable Collection as diamonds grown, cut and polished with renewable wind and solar energy. That is a useful option if the diamond's energy source is a priority for you.
The materials and packaging matter too. Brilliant Earth reports that 99.5% of its gold and 96.4% of its silver are repurposed, with exceptions for some chains, posts, clasps and other components. It also uses Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified wood from responsibly managed forests for its ring boxes and FSC Recycled paper for most paper packaging.
These concrete details are part of why we consider Brilliant Earth despite its higher prices. Check which collection or certification applies to your chosen stone, then compare the diamond quality, design and complete cost.
Ritani vs. Brilliant Earth: shipping and returns
Both advertise free US shipping and returns on eligible orders. Allow for production time as well as the carrier's delivery service.
Ritani: its dedicated returns page says 30 days from shipment; other pages differ, with older terms listing 15 days for loose diamonds. Confirm the deadline for your order in writing and use the supplied return label.
Brilliant Earth: eligible returns have a 30-day window starting when the item is available for shipment or pickup. Custom-designed, altered, resized and certain other purchases are excluded. Most rings qualify for one free resize within the first year, subject to the design and size limits. Do not resize a ring you may want to return.
For the exact rules, read Ritani's returns and Brilliant Earth's returns and resizing policy.

Summary of Ritani vs. Brilliant Earth
Start at Ritani if your priority is a good diamond at a low total price. Choose Brilliant Earth if you prefer its design and shopping experience enough to pay more.
We would compare the finished ring or piece of jewelry at both sellers. If you prefer Brilliant Earth's setting, ask whether the difference still feels worthwhile after you have seen the competing diamond and complete price. If the designs are equally appealing, Ritani's value is hard to ignore.
