Clean Origin Review (2026): Is It Still Worth It?

Our bottom-line verdict

Clean Origin was once one of our favorite places to buy lab-grown diamonds. It had low prices, excellent support, a huge selection, good diamond images, and an unusually generous 100-day return policy. We rated it five stars.

The company is still a legitimate jeweler with plenty to offer. The current site has a large diamond search, ready-to-ship jewelry, custom rings, virtual appointments, six stores, free domestic shipping, and a 60-day return policy. Our earlier purchase was attractively presented, and the return test was easy.

But Clean Origin has moved in the wrong direction in some of the areas that matter most. In our September 2026 check, a close 2.01-carat diamond cost $694, compared with the $422 median of five Ritani results. More importantly, the Clean Origin page still showed a generic round-diamond image rather than the stone a buyer would receive. Our more recent customer-service experience has also been less helpful than the exceptional service we received in the early years.

Our 2026 rating is 3.7 out of 5. Clean Origin is still worth considering for finished jewelry, its stores, and the 60-day return window, but we recommend comparing Ritani, Grown Brilliance, and Brilliant Earth first.

Is Clean Origin legitimate?

Yes. Clean Origin is a legitimate US jeweler founded in 2017. It sells online, operates six stores, publishes its shipping, return, warranty, and resizing terms, and uses independent grading reports for center diamonds.

We have also bought from Clean Origin ourselves. The jewelry arrived as expected in attractive packaging, and our earlier return test was straightforward.

That does not mean every product is the right buy. Clean Origin's recent changes make it especially important to compare the price, inspect the diamond information, and read the terms for the exact item you are considering.

Who is Clean Origin?

Clean Origin was started in 2017 by a team with long experience in diamonds and jewelry. The company grew quickly by focusing on lab-grown diamonds at a time when many traditional jewelers still treated them as a small side category.

The current company story says Clean Origin is led by Akshie Jhaveri, a third-generation jeweler. It describes the business as minority- and female-led.

Clean Origin is no longer a lab-grown-only jeweler. It now sells natural diamonds as well as lab-grown diamonds, engagement rings, wedding rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, fashion jewelry, custom pieces, and ready-to-ship collections. This review remains focused on its lab-grown range.

How our Clean Origin rating has changed

Our view of Clean Origin has changed as the business has changed.

• We originally gave it five stars for low prices, strong diamond images, excellent service, and the 100-day return policy.
• In 2024, we lowered the score to 4.0 after prices rose, selection and diamond inspection became less impressive, and the service no longer matched our earlier experience.
• In 2026, we lowered it again to 3.7. The return window is now 60 days, the loose diamond we checked cost more than Ritani, and the page still did not show the actual stone.

The score is lower, but this is not a dismissal of everything Clean Origin does well. Its jewelry selection, custom options, stores, shipping, and returns remain useful strengths.

Our Clean Origin purchase and return experience

Our earlier review included a real purchase. We bought a petite lab-grown diamond tennis bracelet, inspected the jewelry and packaging, and tested the return process.

The bracelet arrived in a long, cream-colored presentation box. The jewelry was secure, and the understated packaging felt appropriate for a fine-jewelry purchase.

The outer shipping packaging did not reveal what was inside, and the return process we tested was simple. That firsthand experience is an important reason we still see value in Clean Origin despite lowering the current score.

We did not place another order in 2026, so we have not treated the older product test as proof that every current item has the same construction or presentation.

Clean Origin's diamond selection

Selection remains one of Clean Origin's strengths. With only the round-shape filter applied on September 1, 2026, the live search showed 31,635 lab-grown diamonds. The exact number changes constantly, but the available range is more than enough for most buyers.

The search covers eleven shapes: round, oval, emerald, pear, princess, cushion, radiant, Asscher, marquise, heart, and elongated cushion. You can filter by cut, carat, color, price, clarity, grading laboratory, delivery date, and Hearts & Arrows.

The current search also makes it easy to switch between lab-grown and natural diamonds. That is convenient for comparison, though it is a major change from the original Clean Origin identity.

Clean Origin diamond prices

Clean Origin used to be one of the cheapest sellers we reviewed. It is still much less expensive than premium jewelers in our latest sample, but Ritani was clearly cheaper.

Our September 2026 comparison used close round lab-grown diamonds near two carats, with E color, VVS2 clarity, IGI grading, and the seller's top qualifying cut label:

The Clean Origin stone was reduced from $925 during a 25%-off promotion. At $694, it sat between Ritani and the more expensive design-led sellers.

These stones were close rather than identical, and prices change quickly. Even so, the 64.5% gap is large enough that we would always check Ritani before buying a loose diamond from Clean Origin.

Clean Origin's price-match guarantee

Clean Origin offers a pre-purchase price match for closely comparable certified loose diamonds. The current list covers Brilliant Earth, James Allen, Blue Nile, Jared, Kay, Zales, Helzberg, and Rare Carat.

Ritani is not on the list. That weakens the guarantee because Ritani is the price comparison that matters most in our test.

Ready-to-ship diamond jewelry

Clean Origin has built a broad finished-jewelry range. It includes engagement rings, wedding bands, stud earrings, tennis bracelets, tennis necklaces, pendants, fashion jewelry, colored diamonds, and larger statement pieces.

The current Pure Value collection is especially easy to shop. It brings together pieces sold at fixed everyday prices, with many items marked as Quick Ship and some with certified center diamonds.

Preset jewelry needs more care than a loose center stone. Some pieces use a broad color and clarity range, and small diamonds often do not receive individual reports. This is normal for small accent stones, but it means you should read the specifications rather than buying on total carat weight alone.

That concern is not theoretical. Some recent customer complaints describe dull preset stones, thin metal, or missing certification. They do not prove that every piece has a problem, but they support our longstanding advice: choose the diamond yourself for an important purchase, or select a finished item that clearly states its diamond quality and certification.

Create-your-own and custom jewelry

Clean Origin's ring builder remains easy to understand. You can start with a setting or a diamond, compare styles and metals, and assemble a ring around your preferred center stone.

We prefer this route to buying a preset engagement ring. Picking the center stone gives you control over cut, color, clarity, proportions, certification, and price.

Clean Origin also offers a fuller custom-design service. Remember that custom orders are returnable only for store credit, and a redesigned custom piece is final sale.

Diamond images and inspection

This is the most serious weakness in the current shopping experience.

In our earlier reviews, Clean Origin supplied useful 360-degree diamond views, detailed dimensions, and easy access to grading information. The images made it possible to check the stone for visible inclusions, tint, uneven growth, and other issues before ordering.

The live 2.01-carat page we checked in September 2026 still had a 360-degree control, measurements, specifications, and a grading-report button. But the main gallery was labelled Sample Image and loaded a generic round-diamond file. It did not show the exact stone being sold.

That is not good enough for an online loose-diamond purchase. Two diamonds with the same four grades can still look different. The grading report tells you the measurements and grades; it does not replace seeing the stone.

If the page uses a sample image, ask Clean Origin for real high-resolution media before ordering. If the company cannot supply it, choose another diamond or another seller.

Diamond grading reports

Clean Origin uses independent grading reports for its center diamonds. The current loose-diamond search includes IGI and GIA filters, and the 2.01-carat stone in our test was IGI graded.

Always check the full report before buying. Confirm the report number, carat, cut, color, clarity, measurements, table, depth, polish, symmetry, fluorescence, and any comments. For a round diamond, compare the proportions with the visible performance of the actual stone.

Smaller stones in preset jewelry may not receive individual reports. A page should make that clear before you buy.

Customer service and appointments

Customer service used to be one of our favorite things about Clean Origin. In the early years, representatives were friendly, patient, knowledgeable, and willing to recommend a less expensive diamond when it was the better choice.

That experience became less consistent. Our later interactions were still friendly, but the answers were not as useful or confident as before. Recent customer reviews are also mixed: most remain positive, while some describe unanswered messages, repair costs, product-quality disputes, or missing documentation.

Clean Origin still provides several useful ways to get help. You can call, use the contact form, book a virtual appointment, or visit a store.

We did not start a new support conversation for this September 2026 update. Before a large purchase, ask the representative to explain the grading report, confirm whether the product media shows the actual diamond, and put any important return or customization promise in writing.

Clean Origin stores

Clean Origin currently lists six US stores:

• Stonebriar in Frisco, Texas;
• Baybrook in Friendswood, Texas;
• The Woodlands, Texas;
• Easton in Columbus, Ohio;
• Woodfield in Schaumburg, Illinois; and
• Tysons Corner in Tysons, Virginia.

The locations match the six-store network in our previous update. A store can be useful for trying on jewelry, comparing sizes, and speaking with someone in person. Check the store page for current hours before visiting.

Shipping, returns, resizing, and warranty

Clean Origin offers free FedEx two-day shipping on domestic orders, with overnight delivery available as an upgrade. Shipments require a direct signature, and a FedEx hold location can help if you do not want the package delivered to your home.

The return policy is still better than the 30 days offered by many competitors, but it is no longer the exceptional 100-day guarantee we praised for years.

Eligible products can now be returned within 60 days. The window starts when the order is ready for delivery or pickup, and Clean Origin says the item must reach its office by day 60. Return the original packaging and documents; a missing certificate can cost $100.

The exclusions matter:

• exchanged or resized orders are final sale;
• custom orders qualify for store credit only;
• redesigned custom pieces are final sale;
• loose natural diamonds bought without a setting qualify for store credit only; and
• returns require authorization and the correct packaging.

Clean Origin says a return without the required code or packaging can be refused or charged a $150 restocking fee. Free return labels are currently limited to the United States.

Eligible standard rings receive one free resize within 60 days. The lifetime warranty covers manufacturing defects, not normal wear, accidents, negligence, chemical damage, or work carried out by another jeweler.

Sustainability and sourcing

Clean Origin built its brand around a cleaner alternative to mined diamonds. Lab-grown diamonds avoid diamond mining, but they are not automatically carbon-free. The electricity used to grow, cut, and polish them matters.

The current responsibility page is more useful than the broad environmental claims in the original review. Clean Origin says 96% of its gold is recycled, publishes supplier standards, and supports One Tree Planted.

Those are positive steps. What is still missing is product-level information showing where each lab-grown diamond was made, what energy powered it, and whether the claim was independently checked. We would not describe every Clean Origin diamond as sustainable based on the current information alone.

The company now sells natural diamonds too, so the old statement that every Clean Origin purchase avoids diamond mining is no longer accurate.

Clean Origin customer reviews

Most recent customer feedback is positive. Trustpilot displayed 304 reviews when we checked, including 84 from the previous 12 months. Eighty-four percent were five-star reviews.

The negative reviews are still worth reading because they often reveal where a seller's process can fail. Ten percent of the displayed reviews were one star. Recent complaints included preset-jewelry quality, thin metal, missing certification, packaging, unanswered messages, and repair costs.

Customer reviews are individual experiences, not controlled tests. We use them to spot patterns, then compare those patterns with our own purchases, service interactions, and checks of the current site.

Our 3.7/5 Clean Origin rating

Clean Origin earns 3.7 stars in 2026. The selection, finished jewelry, stores, shipping, and return window keep it above average. The missing real diamond image, price gap, shorter return policy, and less consistent service pull the score down.

Our verdict: Clean Origin remains a real option, especially for finished jewelry or shoppers near one of its stores. It is no longer one of our top recommendations. Compare Ritani for the loose diamond, Grown Brilliance for finished jewelry, and Brilliant Earth for a more polished premium experience.

How we reviewed Clean Origin

We first reviewed Clean Origin in 2020 and updated the article repeatedly as its prices, selection, service, policies, and jewelry changed. The original work was led by diamond-industry writer Rolf Hartmann and included extensive site research, support interactions, a jewelry purchase, packaging inspection, and a return test.

For this September 2026 edition, we kept the useful findings and firsthand images, then rechecked the live diamond search, a closely matched product page, prices, current offers, stores, policies, company information, sustainability claims, and customer-review patterns.

The 2026 check did not include a new order or a new support conversation. Prices, inventory, reviews, and promotions are dated because they can change quickly.

What we consider

Our rating considers price, loose-diamond selection, jewelry design, diamond quality and inspection tools, shopping experience, customer support, stores and appointments, sustainability information, shipping, returns, resizing, and warranty coverage.

Review update history

• 2020: We published the first Clean Origin review and began tracking its prices, selection, service, policies, and sustainability claims.
• 2021–2023: We updated the review as the diamond inventory, jewelry range, virtual appointments, stores, and shopping tools expanded.
