In this comparison

We would start with Blue Nile if you want to compare individual diamonds online and like having the option of a showroom. We would start with With Clarity if the setting is your hardest decision and you want to try replicas at home. We bought a finished lab-grown diamond ring from each. We would happily wear either, and the two shopping routes solve different problems.

Our Blue Nile order was a 1.85-carat cushion in a pavé setting. With Clarity gave us a chance to try two designs before we chose a 1.11-carat round diamond in a Chevron Hidden Halo. The finished rings tell us about workmanship and presentation. The replica trial tells us what you can learn about fit before committing to a setting.

What we learned from our Blue Nile purchase

In 2024 we bought a 1.85-carat cushion-cut lab-grown diamond in a pavé engagement ring. Pavé refers to the small stones set along the band. The completed ring let us see how the cushion's outline and the smaller stones worked together, and the finish exceeded our expectations. We inspected the ring, packaging and grading paperwork after delivery.

We like Blue Nile when the diamond is still an open decision. Cushions with the same weight can have different outlines and face-up sizes. The measurements and actual-stone video, when available, help you judge that difference. Pair a short list with compatible settings and check how high the diamond will sit. That is a more useful exercise than simply moving up in weight.

A showroom is another way to narrow the choice. Ask which setting examples the location can show you and whether you can try the band width or metal you are considering. An appointment can help settle the look and feel. Ask separately whether the exact listed diamond can be seen. Our purchase was through the online route.

What we learned from trying With Clarity at home

We ordered two Home Preview replicas and tried them in ordinary lighting. We could see the outline on the hand, compare how the bands felt and revisit the choice without being in a store. For an engagement ring you will wear every day, the time to notice those small things is part of the appeal.

The samples are replicas. Judge the setting's shape and proportions, then inspect the actual center diamond separately. Our Home Preview review explains the trial and how the current credit works. As checked on November 7, 2026, With Clarity's terms list a $200 payment per replica. Return the sample as directed within the seven-day preview period to receive gift credit. Two samples mean $400 tied to a later With Clarity purchase, so we would shortlist that jeweler before using the service.

We separately bought a 1.11-carat round lab-grown diamond in the 14K yellow-gold Chevron Hidden Halo setting. The prongs were neat, the halo was even and the polish impressed us. It arrived 11 days after we ordered. Check your own production and shipment estimate, especially if the preview has to happen first.

Which fitting route will tell you more?

If you are deciding between two designs at the same retailer, trying both at home gives you time to see them in the light where you normally wear jewelry. Look at the profile and see how the band feels between your fingers. If you have a wedding band already, try it next to the replica. Confirm the dimensions of the finished ring separately, particularly if you plan to order a different center shape or weight.

If you are still considering several jewelers, a showroom appointment can give you the same starting clues without paying for a replica. You can see whether a lower profile is more comfortable and ask about a setting you might otherwise overlook. Tell the store what you want to try before you go. Then compare the quotes without having to account for credit at one store.

For the real diamond, both builders offer a separate choice. Read the report for your candidate and check its measurements and media. A ring you like on the hand gives you a starting point for the design. It cannot tell you how the center diamond you select will look.

Compare the two completed orders

Our cushion-cut pavé ring and round hidden-halo ring were different purchases. Shape, size, gold color and setting construction all change the total. We would not infer that either jeweler is cheaper from what we paid for those rings or from an older loose-diamond sample.

For a meaningful comparison, choose two rings you would be happy to own. Match the center shape and approximate size and check the exact stone details and grading report. Then match the metal, band style and accent layout as closely as you can. Compare the final total, including taxes and any service you would pay for separately. Keep the delivery estimate and return terms beside the price.

If you use Home Preview, count the credit once. An eligible replica return gives you credit you can apply to the later ring order. Treat the payment you already made as part of your total cash outlay, and check what happens to the credit if you decide not to buy. That matters more than a line in the basket saying how much was deducted.

Returns, resizing and delivery

We checked the US terms on November 7, 2026. Blue Nile's policy normally gives eligible items 30 days from shipment. It lists exclusions for personalization, engraving, certain custom orders and rings resized after purchase. It advertises one free resize for eligible designs within six months of purchase. A seasonal extension can apply to some orders, so use the deadline on your order.

With Clarity's policy currently lists a holiday return deadline of January 15, 2027 for eligible orders and a different refund rule for a second purchase. It advertises a complimentary resize within 30 days of purchase for eligible US orders. Confirm your exact deadline, the rules for personalized or altered pieces, and how the credit would be handled if you returned the finished ring. The replica has its own seven-day window.

Compare dates on the same basis. Ask when the selected ring should arrive, and whether an appointment, replica trial or special setting adds time. Leave room to correct the fit. Hold off on engraving or resizing until you know whether you are keeping the ring.

Which would we choose?

If we were still comparing a few cushion or round diamonds and knew we wanted a fairly classic design, we would start with Blue Nile. The loose-diamond tools give us a way to settle the stone, and a showroom can help if we need to narrow the settings.

If we were torn between two With Clarity settings and already expected to buy there, we would try Home Preview. The most useful part was seeing how the two designs felt on the hand. Then we would choose the exact stone and check the complete order.

Questions shoppers ask

Do the Home Preview rings contain the diamond I will buy?

No. They are replicas for trying the design. You choose a lab-grown diamond for your finished ring separately. Ask for the exact stone's measurements and grading report when you reach that step.

Can I try a Blue Nile ring before buying?

Ask your nearest showroom what is available to try. A sample can help you compare the style and fit. Check separately whether the exact diamond or completed ring you are considering is available there.

Which retailer costs less for the same ring?

We have not priced two identical complete rings. Ask for quotes with comparable diamonds and settings, compare the exact details, and use the total you would pay after tax and any credit or offer you can actually apply.

How we compared Blue Nile and With Clarity

This comparison uses our Blue Nile ring purchase, our With Clarity replica trial and separate finished-ring purchase, our own photography, and later checks of the retailers' shopping tools and US policies. We use our delivery times to describe those orders. We did not run a matched delivery or price test. See our review process.
